Martin J. Hagan's clients typically include:

    ●   Couples and individuals in or near their retirement years,

    ●   Families with an aged or incapacitated family member,

     ●   Family business owners, and

     ●   Younger business people and professionals.

 

Mr. Hagan also assists Executors and Trustees in administering estates and trusts, and he represents clients in probate and trust litigation, particularly dealing with cases of financial exploitation of the elderly.

 

Mr. Hagan is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and a member of the Probate, Trust, and Real Property Sections of the American, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny County Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations.

He is past Chairman of the Allegheny County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee, and a member of the Allegheny County Court Rules Committee and the Legislative Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Probate and Trust Law Committee.

Mr. Hagan is a frequent speaker on topics dealing with tax-saving opportunities in family wealth transfers and lifetime property and health-care protection, and has published on estate planning topics in the journal Trusts and Estates.

He received his A.B. and J.D. degrees from the University of Notre Dame, where he served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Notre Dame Law Review.

Mr. Hagan was the keynote speaker at the fortieth annual Red Mass sponsored by the Diocese of Greensburg and Saint Vincent Archabbey, Seminary, and College.

Mr. Hagan’s community activities include providing pro bono legal assistance to the indigent elderly through the Legal Aid Society.

He also has taught classes on various trust and estate subjects through the University of Pittsburgh's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and at Chatham College. 

He has served as President of the Saint Bernard Parish Council, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh.

Martin and his wife, Susan Darin Hagan, are active in their Parish's marriage preparation program, and serve as foster parents for infant children through the Children's Home of Pittsburgh.

They are the proud parents of five children: John (University of Notre Dame, A.B. '02, Washington & Lee University School of Law, J.D. '05), Margaret (University of Chicago, A.B. '03, Central European University, Budapest, M.A. '04), Claire (University of Notre Dame, A.B. '05, University of Michigan, M.S.W. '06), Teresa (University of Notre Dame, A.B. '07), and Patrick (University of Notre Dame, '09).

In his leisure time, Martin plays clarinet in Community Band South, which performs throughout the greater Pittsburgh area.
