ESTATE PLANNING CLIENTS

Martin J. Hagan offers a no-fee initial consultation to prospective estate planning clients, where your goals and concerns can be discussed in a private one-on-one session. To schedule a consultation, please call our office (412-433-9996) or send an e-mail to mhagan@haganlaw.net.  To make the consultation productive, we request that you complete and bring with you a confidential Questionnaire, which you can obtain by calling our office at the above number or by downloading it from our Questionnaire page.

At the end of the consultation, which usually lasts one hour, Mr. Hagan will normally be prepared to recommend an estate plan that will effectively carry out both your tax and non-tax objectives. At that time he will also quote you the legal fee he would charge for implementing the plan. If you wish to engage Mr. Hagan, you will be asked to sign an engagement letter that will set forth the scope of his services and the fee that you agree to pay. No fee will be charged for the consultation if you decide not to proceed.

TRUST AND ESTATE ADMINISTRATION

We consider estate and trust administration work to be a team effort between the executor/trustee and attorney to complete the work in a timely and cost-effective manner. We encourage a flexible division of tasks that will allow the executors and trustees to perform as much of the administrative work as they have the time and willingness to do.

As to fees and commissions, at the outset we will review with the executor/trustee the methods for computing both their own commission and a reasonable attorney's fee, and come to an agreement on legal fees that is appropriate for the particular estate or trust. In every case the fee arrangement will be approved in advance by the executor/ trustee, and then incorporated into an engagement letter that is signed by both the executor/trustee and the law firm.

If you are (or know you soon will be) an executor or trustee and want to discuss engaging Mr. Hagan and his firm to serve as your counsel, please call the office (412-433-9996) or send an e-mail (mhagan@haganlaw.net) to schedule an appointment.

AFFORDING LONG-TERM CARE

Mr. Hagan will schedule a consultation, generally lasting one hour, for clients who are interested in discussing Medicaid eligibility, long-term care insurance, and other issues pertaining to long-term care for themselves or a family member. To schedule such a consultation, please call our office (412-433-9996) or send an e-mail to mhagan@haganlaw.net.  The fee for the consultation will be discussed and agreed upon in advance of the meeting.

If as a result of the consultation additional legal services are requested, the legal fees for such services will be discussed and agreed upon at that time.

ESTATE AND TRUST LITIGATION

Mr. Hagan will schedule a meeting for individuals who want to discuss their rights and possible remedies in estate and trust litigation matters, such as will contests, actions arising from the administration of estates and trusts, and claims involving agents who have acted under a lifetime power of attorney.  Mr. Hagan represents both those persons who are interested in bringing such claims, as well as those against whom such claims may have been filed. The fees and costs associated with such representation will be discussed and agreed upon at the outset of the representation.

To schedule such a meeting  regarding a litigation matter, please call our office (412-433-9996) or send an e-mail to mhagan@haganlaw.net.
